2nd INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM OF SCULPTURE
ODEMIRA – PORTUGAL 2008


1st Article
General Conditions

1. The Symposium is to take place in the town of Odemira, along the bank and walkway of the Mira River, between the 30 August and 13 September.
2. The duration of the event will be of 15 days.
3. The sculptor should arrive in Odemira by the 30th August in the morning and should remain in based in the area until the event comes to an end.
4. A panel of judges will be formed to select the participating artists.
5. The panel of judges will be made up of two members from the Sopa dos Artistas Association and two members from the Municipal Town Hall of Odemira.
6. From a total of nine participating artists, five will be selected. Four of the nine artists will be invited by the organizing entity.

2nd Article
Requirements

1. Each sculptor should submit along with his personal identification documents (name, address, nationality, telephone number and e-mail address) his curriculum vitae and portfolio. It is not recommended to mail the portfolio via the internet or the presentation of works through websites.
2. The sculptors must submit a list of the materials and tools required for the execution of their work. This list should take into consideration regionally sourced materials (e.g. wood, clay etc.) or materials offered by companies supporting the event, e.g. metal/iron and stone.
3. These details should be sent, by no later than the 1 July 2008, either to the Câmara Municipal de Odemira, Praça da Repúbilica, Gabinete da Cultura, 7630 Odemira, or to the Associação Sopa dos Artistas, Apartado 21, Seladinhas, 7630-908 São Teotónio - Portugal

5. The artists are required to create a work of art for an urban space (public art) with a minimum dimension of 250 x 100 x 100 cms.

3rd Article
Tools / Materials

1. Each sculptor will be able to work with his personal tools, however the organization, in as much as is possible, will undertake to supply some tools, so long these are requested in advance and agreed to by both parties.
2. In accordance with the service requirements, an assistant will be made available to see to any eventual necessities of the artists.

4th Article
Accommodation and Meals

1. Accommodation will be in a local guesthouse, covered by the organizing body.
2. Meals will be covered also by the organizing body.

5th Article
Participation Awards

1. On completing the work each sculptor will, at the end of the Symposium, receive 600€ .The work produced during the Symposium belongs to the artist. This can either be left in a space within the Municipality or taken away (at own expense).

6th Article
Symposium Prize

1. A prize of 1000€ is to be awarded to the winning piece. To attribute the prize, a panel of five judges will be formed, made up of two persons appointed by the Municipality, two by the Associação da Sopa dos Artistas and a guest teacher from a University of Fine Arts. The winning work of art will be left to the town of Odemira.

7th Article
Exhibition

1. At the end of the Symposium an exhibition of the works produced will be inaugurated supported by a catalogue.

8th Article
Working with Schools

1. Sculptors invited by the organizing body will give a demonstration in local schools.

Allgemeine Bedingungen

Das Symposium findet in der Stadt Odemira/Portugal entlang des Flusses Mira vom 30. 08.-13.09 statt.
Es besteht Anwesenheitspflicht während der Dauer des Symposiums
Eine Juri entscheidet über die Auswahl der Künstler.
Die Juri besteht aus zwei Mitgliedern des Vereins „sopa dos artistas“ und aus zwei Mitgliedern der „Câmara Municipal de Odemira“, der städtischen Verwaltung.
Es werden von insgesamt neun Symposiumsteilnehmern fünf Künstler von allen eingegangenen Bewerbungen zur Teilnahme ausgewählt. Vier weitere Künstler sind von der Organisation geladen.

Absatz 2
Requisiten

Jeder Künstler muss neben seinen persönlichen Angaben (Name, Adresse, Telefonnummer und E-mail Adresse) einen Lebenslauf und eine Mappe mit Fotos von bereits gefertigten Arbeiten der Bewerbung beifügen. Die Zusendung dieser Unterlagen kann nicht über das Internet erfolgen. Zudem ist es nicht gestattet, die Arbeiten via Website zu präsentieren.
Die Künstler sollten eine Liste anfertigen in der klar ersichtlich ist, welche Materialien und Werkzeuge zur Erstellung der Kunstwerke notwendig sind. Diese Liste sollte die Materialien der Region berücksichtigen (solche sind beispielsweise: Holz, Lehm, Kork, etc.), oder Materialien, welche von Firmen gespendet werden, z.B. Eisen und Stein.

Die Künstler sollten eine Freiplastik anfertigen, welche im Minimum eine Größe von 250 x 100 x 100 cm beträgt.

Werkzeug / Material

Jeder Künstler sollte mit seinem eigenen Werkzeug arbeiten. Darüber hinaus stellt die Organisation, soweit möglich, Werkzeug zur Verfügung -
Soweit erforderlich, steht ein Kran zur Verfügung. Dieser wird von der Stadt gestellt und ist je nach Verfügbarkeit einsetzbar.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung
1. Unterkunft und Verpflegung wird von der Organisation gewährleistet.

Absatz 5
Preisgelder

Jeder partizipierende Künstler erhält nach Abschluss des Symposiums und der erfolgreichen Ausführung des Werkes 600 Euro. Das während des Symposiums produzierte Kunstwerk ist Eigentum des Künstlers. Es besteht die Möglichkeit das Werk in Odemira zurückzulassen oder es auf eigene Kosten mitzunehmen.

Absatz 6
Preis

Zudem wird ein Werk in Höhe von 1000 Euro prämiert. Für die Auswahl ist eine Juri von fünf Personen zuständig, welche sich aus zwei Mitgliedern der städtischen Verwaltung, zwei Mitgliedern des Vereins „sopa dos artistas“ und einem geladen Professor der Universidade de belas artes de Lisboa zusammensetzt. Das prämierte Werk wird Eigentum der Stadt.
Eine vierwöchige Ausstellung der erstellten Werke in der Stadt Odemira be-
endet das Symposium. Ein Katalog ist geplant

Absatz 8
Arbeiten mit Schulen

Die eingeladenen Künstler sollten sich den Fragen über ihre Arbeit von Schülern lokaler Schulen zur Verfügung stellen.

Pois é, como publicámos o regulamento lá por fora, de forma a internacionalizar ao máximo o evento, tivemos que alargar o prazo de entrega dos trabalhos até ao dia 1 de Julho. Força, ficamos à espera de mais candidatos.
